North Llano River RV Park
After a long, dry and relatively relaxing day of driving across East Texas, we arrived in Junction and headed to our destination for the day, the North Llano River RV Park. It's a lovely campground - the perfect place to park your van down by the river, and a lovely river it is. Sites are well-spaced, there are trees for shade, and they have a pool as well as a nice long riverbank.
It's a great place to relax after a long day, but we couldn't stay here for long. The entire town of Junction has roughly 1 bar of Verizon 1x service. No data at all, and barely enough signal for a phone call or txt message. It's just uncivilized!
The campground allegedly has WiFi, but as we've mentioned before, that is an oxymoron in most places...including this one. While it's possible to detect and occasionally connect to the network, bandwidth is roughly 1200 BAUD. Frustrating, to say the least.
Junction may not have any cell phone service to speak of, but they do host some very fine BBQ. We spotted Lums, just down the road from the RV Park, and stopped in to check it out. Susan's a vegetarian, but Bill isn't, so he tried the pulled pork and the brisket. Both were very delicious indeed!
Lum's, like many Texas BBQ places, as it turns out, is a combination gas station and restaurant. This one is a particularly interesting location, as you can see from the photos. If the weather had been warmer, we're sure there would have been plenty of folks seated on the patio.
