Savannah and Tybee Island, GA
October 27-29, 2017
For the next stop on our journey, we decided to visit our very good friends who currently live in Savannah, GA. The nearest campground was actually out at the mouth of the Savannah River, on Tybee Island. This is a nice little campground, with full hookups and decent rest rooms / showers. It's positioned nicely on Tybee Island, within walking distance of the spectacular Tybee Island lighthouse. Campsites are relatively close together, but we had enough room to open our awnings and enjoy a bit of the resultant shade on both sides of our trailer. Given it's location, it was about half an hour from the campground to downtown Savannah. Also, driving through Savannah is the quickest way to get there. Savannah is so beautiful we didn't mind, but some of those city streets are anything but RV friendly. There may be a better route for those of you moving RV's bigger than Rocinante. As it was, we had no real trouble because she's only 28' long. We would definitely stay here again if we were in the Savannah area, though it is roughly 30 minutes from downtown Savannah to the campground on Tybee Island.
